Portuguese healthtech UpHill is leading a European consortium with an €8 million investment to bring healthcare data to three million people.

The project foresees the participation of around 1,200 health professionals, impacting more than three million people. In Portugal the pilot is being undertaken in Coimbra and Madeira.

It is one of the steps towards the implementation of the European Health Data Space. i2X represents an investment of €8 million and brings together 38 partners from 12 EU Member States.

“i2X is committed to improving the experience of healthcare professionals and patients in this process, by optimising workflows and integrating new technologies. The extensive i2X ecosystem will support continuity of care across the EU, allowing the creation of specialized reference centers, optimizing waiting times and minimizing duplication of services,” says Eduardo Freire Rodrigues, co-founder and CEO of UpHill, quoted in a communiqué.

The project “will use artificial intelligence and other advanced technology to implement the interoperability of health care in Europe, without compromising the time of health professionals and ensuring value for patients”, explains Henrique Martins, coordinator of i2X.

The i2X project aims to implement a Common Electronic Health Record format in the EU, known as X-Format, ensuring that the “different information systems used in European health institutions are able to communicate, meaning: store, exchange and interpret health data, using a common language”.
