Startup World Cup comes to Portugal
The Startup World Cup is coming to Portugal’s Unicorn Factory in September offering the chance for Portuguese startups to bag a million dollars of investment if they win their pitch in Silicon Valley.
The competition is in 70 countries and now Portugal thanks to Pegasus Tech Ventures and “reflects Portugal’s growing relevance as a European centre for innovation and entrepreneurship”, reports the ECO online new source.
The first Portugal edition will take place at Lisbon’s Unicorn Factory in September.
“The arrival of the Startup World Cup in Portugal reflects the growing relevance of the country as a European centre of innovation and entrepreneurship, supported by a dynamic and growing innovation ecosystem,” says Rui Sales Rodrigues.
“This initiative, which combines a pitch competition with a conference, and is present in more than 70 countries, reinforces Portugal’s strategic position as a hub for business, innovation and international networking, highlighting the talent and potential of Portuguese startups on the global stage,” the executive director of the Startup World Cup in Portugal told ECO.
With more than 100 regional stages, the Startup World Cup is a global competition in which startups, investors, business angels, market analysts and companies come together to discuss business and solutions in sectors such as health, energy, education, finance, entertainment and technology, with the goal of connecting regional innovation ecosystems with Silicon Valley. Every year, it receives about 10,000 applications from startups in events on six continents, involving more than 50,000 participants.
