UK citizens among those most barred entry to Portugal in 2024
One-hundred and eight UK citizens were barred entry to Portugal in 2024 according to the country’s Annual Report on Internal Security. (RASI)
But that’s nothing compared to the 1,470 Brazilian citizens refused entry with the main reason being lack of justification for entry.
Coming next on the list featuring a total of 1,727 stopped at the border, were Angolans (274). Also refused entry last year were citizens from India (83), Guiné-Bissau (72), East Timor (70) and Senegal (68).
The RASI shows that the lack of reasons to justify entry (768) and the lack of an adequate visa (352) or an expired visa were the main reasons for stopping people coming into the country.
Last year there was also a 5.5% increase in controlled flights in terms of landings (+6.1%) and take-offs (+5.9%). Some 24,613,497 passengers were ‘controlled’, corresponding to an increase of 7.9% on 2023 – meaning the use of security measures to identify and manage aircraft or passengers at airports/borders.
At maritime borders 47,331 vessels were controlled, corresponding to an increase of 3.1% with leisure boats among the most controlled (24,370), followed by commercial vessels. (19,420).
The report also shows that the number of people controlled at maritime borders totalled 3,885,825 (+29%), distributed by passengers (2,518,824 – +30.4%) and crew. (1,367,001 – +26.5%)
