Mota-Engil is completing the acquisition of 100% of the shares in Brazilian construction company Empresa Construtora Brasil (ECB), 13 years after having acquired 50% of the company.

Mota-Engil had purchased the shares from the Rezende family who owned the company for €19.2 million. But according to the Brazilian news source O Globo, Mota-Engil has snapped up the other 50% of what is Brazil’s sixth largest construction company.

According to the business daily Negócios the transaction should be completed this month. The company, which is known in the Brazilian market as ‘Brasil’ was founded in 1945 in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais.

In 2012 Mota-Engil bought 50% of the company through Mota-Engil Brasil. At the time the company operated in areas such as road and rail infrastructures, urban sanitation maintenance, mining and industrial infrastructure, reservoirs and motorway concessions.

Between 2013 and 2023, ECB multiplied its turnover by 12 and currently has an annual turnover of €250 million.
