Local Accommodation in Portugal is attracting increasing numbers of Portuguese holidaymakers according to data from LovelyStay, a national leader in local accommodation management.

Domestic travellers appear in the 4th position of the ranking of guests in the accommodations managed by the company in 2024, only behind customers from Spain, France and the United States, and ahead of countries such as Germany, United Kingdom, Brazil, Italy, Canada and the Netherlands.

In terms of preferred destinations, Porto led the bookings made by the Portuguese last year, followed by the Algarve region and Lisbon, although accommodation located in the Madeira archipelago also stand out.

Miguel Marinho Soares, Head of Portugal at LovelyStay, comments: “It’s very gratifying to see that the Portuguese like to travel more and more around Portugal to discover the charms of our country.

“This shows that national tourism is not only driven by foreigners and shows that the Portuguese
are among the travellers who most use Local Accommodation in their own country, so this ranking also demystifies the idea that this type of accommodation is only aimed at foreigners.”

According to LovelyStay data, 75% of bookings made by Portuguese in 2024 are from adults without children and 25% are families with children.
