Cellnex, which manages telecommunications infrastructures such as towers, is to diversify its business areas in Portugal.

According to business daily Negócios, given the size of Portugal and the number of operators, the subsidiary of the Spanish group that owns telecommunications towers (Cellnex Telecom S.A.), will beef up investments in indoor coverage segments (to improve indoor mobile connectivity), in order to have 800 solutions in Portugal by 2027 according to Cellnex Portugal Genera Director, João Osório Mora.

The company entered the Portuguese market in 2020 when it bought the mobile telecommunications towers from Altice Portugal, extending its operations within months by acquiring antennas owned by rival telecoms company Nos.

Today, it has 6,851 sites, including those that are in an implementation phase, and three clients including Digi with which it is in the final phase of implementation of 2,000 coverage points.

Vodafone has a commercial agreement with Cellnex rivals Vantage Towers that arose as a result of the serration of assets from a British operator.

João Osório Mora said that given the limitations for growth in Portugal, Cellnex’s strategy for the next few years would involve focusing on the portfolio that it already has, seeking to make them more efficient.
